A man has captured the stunning moment a giant eye forms in the cloud above his home.

Graham Telford, a 46-year-old father of two, was surprised to notice the rare cloud formation that left an eerie sensation of being watched by an out-of-this-world being.

The incredible phenomenon occurred in Leeds, UK on Wednesday, May 3.

The images have equally stunned social media users, some of who have claimed the formation is "God's eye." Some have even been more fanciful, calling it evidence of government espionage.

However, experts say the cloud formation is known as stratocumulus standing lenticularis, which occurs when strong and wet winds blow over uneven terrain.

Telford said although the shape disappeared quickly, it was amazing to see: "I have never seen anything like it before. These clouds just formed the perfect shape of an eye - right down to the eyebrow. It was amazing."

He added: "I don't personally believe in someone up there looking down on us but when I saw this I definitely felt like someone was watching us."
