All land depots are to be related too. The disclosure become made by the permanent secretary of the transport ministry, Sabiu Zakari, at the opening session of the fifteenth countrywide council on transportation in sokoto.
According to Daily Trust Zakari said: “The vision is for a farmer in Sokoto to be able to send his goods from his farms by road to the nearest inland container depot, where it would be carried by rail to one of the seaports for export to Europe, America, Asia.”
“the modern delivery infrastructure and services are insufficient to deal with the Country's massive population and so the need to develop and integrate the various modes has emerge as a necessity to decorate the Nations transportation machine.” Zakari stated that the authorities had recorded a few achievemens in linking the Apapa port to rail.
“bonded containers are currently being transported with the aid of rail from Apapa port to Inland Container Nigeria Constrained depot in Kaduna,” He said.
He argued that linking the ports and depots to rail might ease the burden and fee of transportation and the influx of people and trucks to cities with such infrastructures.
Aside from this, the flow might help decongest the ports, create jobs, develop modern-day transport infrastructure and increase the life of the already present ones.
President Muhammadu Buhari had permitted a rail line from Kano to his native land in Daura, Jibia nearby government areas of Katsina State.
