Two PDP lawmakers defect to APC in Ondo state

- Two members of the Ondo state House of Assembly have defected

- The lawmakers were elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

- They are now members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

Two members of the Ondo state House of Assembly have defected to the APC from the PDP in Ondo state.

According to The Nation, the lawmakers are the majority leader, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, representing Akoko North-West Constituency 2 and ex-Acting Speaker, Malachi Coker, representing Ilaje Constituency 2.

The lawmakers said their defection became imperative after consultations with their constituents.

According to the duo, their defection would give their constituents more democracy dividends, even as they promised to work with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to develop the state.

Reacting to the defection, the Speaker of the House, Bamidele Oleyelogun, described the lawmakers as tested politicians, whose defection would add value to the APC.

Receiving the members on behalf of the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the state deputy chairman, Ade Adetimehin exprressed optimism that the APC would control the House before the year ends.

The APC had only five lawmakers at the inauguration of the House, but the gubernatorial victory of the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has witnessed mass defections from lawmakers of the PDP to APC.

Meanwhile, at least 500 supporters of the APC, including some of the executive members of the party, both present and past, have defected to the PDP in Ohimini local government area of Benue state.

The defection comes on the heels of the emergence of Eric Adokwu as PDP’s flag bearer in Ohimini LGA ahead of the 2017 local government election in the state.
