President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Aishah Ahmad as the new deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Ahmad is to replace a former deputy governor, who retired early this year.
In a letter to the Senate, the president urged the Senate president, Bukola Saraki to consider the expeditious confirmation of Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately.
According to a statement on Thursday, October 5 from Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the appointment is accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007.
Similarly, the president asked the Senate to approve the confirmation of appointment of members of the monetary policy committee of the CBN.
The new members are to replace four members, whose tenure expires at the end of this year.
The nominees are:
1 Professor Adeola Festus Adenikinju;
2 Dr Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi;
3 Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa
4 Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu.
